In 1976 my physics teacher sent me to a strange and mysterious thing called a Computer Workshop. I was 16 years old, and didn't have any idea what 'computer' meant. I still didn't when I left. It was on the campus of Clemson University, and I wandered around. The home of John C. Calhoun, wild-haired early-19th c. Senator and Vice President from South Carolina. Something about the fragrance of the boxwood, and the gardenia.
